Pregnancy Photography Sessions
My project started in Israel, when I was pregnant with my firstborn. I joined my photographer friend, Orit Geva, to a cabin in the woods where we did a 3 hour session. The experience itself was wonderful, and I treasured my own pregnancy photos. Lately I decided to start taking pictures of women who themselves were pregnant, and so I started the betty778 pregnancy album. The pictures in this gallery spread between Costa Rica, Israel, and Canada. Many were taken in the Kootenays: Nelson and Eastshore of the Kootenay Lake.

Pregnancy photography in a natural environment entices the body to a natural posture. The mind can now start relating to the body as one with its natural processes, its cycle and its growth.

Shooting pregnancy on sunset or in the bright morning light gives a sense of harmony.
Playful light and shade games provide vitality and animate the feeling within.

The location is selected with consultation; a special lake shore, a river among the trees, or a rocky vista. The connection to the location can provide a magical experience and a unique memory of place and time.

Back home, photos are selected for their artistic value, and edited to gray-scale, sepia, using selective artistic paint and other techniques. There is always the option to have an editing session get-together.
